Outreach to Those in Need
We have an active Missions Committee. Through our Missions Committee, each month an offering is made to organizations or programs that serve our neighbors near or far. Local programs include Suffield Community Aid and the Network. We collected food and gifts for families served by these programs over the holidays, created hygiene kits for victims of disasters through the United Church of Christ, and responded to the needs of Hartford soup kitchens.
In November we host an International Bazaar. While it serves as a fun fundraiser for the church, it also supports Serve International. This year we also brought in over $1000 for Haitian artisans through the sale of Haitian made crafts through the Apparent Project in Haiti. We offer soups to warm you, baked goods to satisfy your sweet tooth and holiday cheer as you begin your holiday shopping while supporting others.
Members of our Missions Committee manage the Crossroads Food Pantry and coordinate the visit of the FOODSHARE truck to the church. This is a community effort with volunteers from this church and others; and financial support from a number of sources. Our food pantry does not turn people away, even if they reside outside of this town. You can find more in this ministry under the Crossroads Food Pantry and FOODSHARE.
